Weddings at the Chateau: Charlotte and John Hughes

Thursday 18 June 2015

We were overjoyed to host the wedding of Charlotte and John Hughes on 3 April 2015.

Charlotte and John first met at school during a sixth form boat party and began dating a few months later. John proposed to Charlotte in March last year during a weekend break away to Bath. Charlotte had suspicions he was going to pop the question, but after a posh meal and drinks in a stylish cocktail bar, she was left feeling unsure. However, when they went back to their room, Charlotte discovered a scroll in an empty bottle of wine. Unravelling it, she revealed an advert for the perfect wife, describing her to a tee. Turning around, she found John on one knee with a Haribo ring in a box and said yes straight away!

The couple chose Friday 3 April as their wedding date as it was 13 years to the day they first got together. Ever since she was a girl, Charlotte had wanted to get married at the Chateau as she thought it looked like a palace fit for a princess, and their special day was everything she could ever want. It was a shame that it rained for most of the day, but the wedding party was well prepared, wearing wellies and umbrellas that fitted in with their bright colour scheme of pink and orange. Charlotte and John kept the wedding theme quite personal, and had non-traditional music for their ceremony. Haribo-obsessed Charlotte even promised to share her sweets as part of her vows!

When the couple entered the Grand Ballroom with their guests, the tables were named after important dates in their history, showing pictures of them as children and from the year they first got together. They had pancakes for dessert and there was a fantastic Cinderella-themed sweet cart filled with Charlotte’s favourite sweets.

Charlotte and John then went on honeymoon to the Dominican Republic. It was their first break away without their daughter, Olivia, and it was lovely to relax in a tropical paradise.

It was a pleasure to host Charlotte and John’s special day, and we wish them all the very best for their future together as husband and wife.
